    From picture to fabric

A pretty photo doesn’t make a good pattern on its own.

Size, palette, isolated stitches: Stixiva helps you decide what stays, what changes and what goes before you thread a needle.

    1. Start from a picture you love

A photo, a drawing, a keepsake to give: crop your picture, then pick the size of the piece in stitches or inches.

PNG, JPEG or WebP · processed on your device

    2. Keep the details. Lose the clutter.

Pick your DMC, Anchor, Madeira or Sullivans floss, spot isolated stitches and protect the shades that matter. Compare before and after before you apply.

    3. From screen to fabric

Export a PDF pattern with symbols and the floss list, then print it or follow it on a tablet.

    Made to be stitched

From chart to fabric, you have the final say.

Adjust isolated stitches and floss, digitize a pattern you already own, then track your progress as you stitch.

    Isolated stitches

Change floss for the design, not for one stray stitch.

One isolated stitch can mean changing floss for a single square. Stixiva finds them: you choose which to merge and which details to keep.

    FAQ

Before you pick your first photo.

Another question? Email us at contact@stixiva.com.

How do I turn a picture into a cross-stitch pattern?

Import a photo or picture (PNG, JPEG or WebP), crop it, pick the size in stitches or inches and the number of colors, from 2 to 64: Stixiva builds the chart with DMC, Anchor, Madeira or Sullivans floss. Then touch up isolated stitches and details, and export the PDF pattern. For a quick preview without an account, the free photo to pattern tool shows the result in three sizes.

    Is Stixiva free right now?

Yes. During the public beta, every tool in the studio is free: no credit card, no commitment.

    What happens after the beta?

Nothing changes without notice: everyone with an account gets an email before the public beta ends. No payment is asked during the beta, and your patterns stay yours: you can always open them and save them as .embx files.

Do I need to know how to draw?

No. Start from a simple photo: Stixiva builds the chart, with a DMC, Anchor, Madeira or Sullivans palette if you like. The drawing tools are there to touch up the chart or design your own pattern from scratch.

Can I stitch a pattern I bought elsewhere?

Yes, for your personal use. An .oxs or .wxs file opens directly. For a PDF pattern, a scan or a photo of a symbol chart, the “Digitize a paper chart” assistant reads the grid square by square, one page at a time: it rebuilds the full cross stitches, then you add any backstitch or half stitches. You can then stitch in Stitch mode and mark your stitches as you go.

Which images can I turn into a pattern?

Photos or illustrations in PNG, JPEG or WebP, up to 20 MB. Crop the image, pick the size in stitches or inches (up to 256 stitches a side), then the number of colors, from 2 to 64. The image is processed on your device.

    What is “confetti” in cross-stitch?

It’s a single stitch surrounded by different colors. Every confetti stitch means changing floss for just one stitch, which makes a pattern slow and tedious. Stixiva spots these stitches and merges them with their neighbors, showing you the before and after.

    Where are my projects saved?

Your projects are saved on your device, in an .embx file (Stixiva’s format). If you like, you can also save them to your Stixiva cloud space to open them on another device. You decide when a project goes to the cloud; after that, its changes are saved there automatically.

Do I need to install anything?

No. The studio opens in any recent browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari), on a computer or a tablet. A Windows 10 and 11 app is also available if you prefer installed software.

Do my patterns work with Pattern Keeper?

Pattern Keeper is an app that helps you track your progress on a pattern. Stixiva’s PDF pattern is a vector file with a symbol grid and a floss key, designed to be read by this kind of app. Testing with Pattern Keeper is still in progress, so check the import on your first pattern.

    Windows app

The studio, on your desktop too.

Stixiva also comes as an app for Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), with your .embx files right on your computer. The app opens the online studio in its own window, so you need an internet connection. Its “Open” button reads .embx files and “Import WXS” reads .wxs files; an .oxs file opens from the studio in your browser. The same account gives you access to the beta.

On a phone or tablet (Android, iPhone or iPad), install the studio from this page, opened in the device’s browser: you get an icon on your home screen and the studio full screen, with no browser bar. You still need an internet connection, just like in the browser.
