    What the preview does

    The photo is shrunk to the size of the chart, then each square gets the closest floss from a palette picked for that photo, using the ΔE2000 color difference: it's the stixiva editor's conversion engine, with the same settings as its “Stitch a photo you love” path.

    In the editor, the chart becomes editable: cropping, brightness, forced or excluded colors, cleanup of stray stitches (the “confetti”) with a before / after view, then the PDF pattern with symbols and the floss key. See how to turn a picture into cross stitch from start to finish.

    Picking the right photo

    • A sharp, well-lit subject on a calm background.
    • A tight crop: every stitch counts, especially at small sizes.
    • Tiny details on screen won't show on fabric: pick a larger size for a portrait.

    Is my photo sent to a server?

    No: the conversion runs in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.

    Can I download the pattern?

    The preview shows the chart and its floss. “Continue in the editor” opens your photo there, at the size and brand you picked: the chart becomes editable and the PDF pattern can be downloaded, with a free account and no credit card during the beta.

    Why so many colors?

    A photo holds thousands of shades: the conversion brings them down to the palette you picked. In the editor, you set the number of colors from 2 to 64 and merge stray stitches.
