What size frame should I choose?
Enter the size of the piece in stitches, the fabric and the space you want around it: the tool finds the smallest standard frame size that holds it all.
- 16 standard sizes
- Mat included
- Drawn to scale

Choosing the frame
A frame is chosen by the size of its opening: the stitching plus the space around it (a mat, or just the fabric left visible). The tool adds that space on each side of the stitching, then looks for the smallest standard size that holds it all, in the same orientation as the stitching.
To lace the fabric over a board before framing, keep a few extra inches of fabric on each side of the frame size: the size and fabric to cut tool works out the fabric with its margins.
To go further than this tool: the free cross stitch software stixiva draws, converts and prints your charts, online or on Windows, and its Stitch mode tracks your stitches as you work.
Which sizes are offered?
Standard store sizes, in inches: 4 × 6, 5 × 5, 5 × 7, 6 × 8, 8 × 8, 8 × 10, 8.5 × 11, 9 × 12, 10 × 10, 11 × 14, 12 × 12, 12 × 16, 16 × 20, 18 × 24, 20 × 20, 24 × 36.
What if my piece is bigger?
Beyond 24 × 36 in, you need a custom frame: a framer cuts the moulding and the mat to the size you want.
Do I need a mat?
No, but it shows off the stitching and keeps it away from the glass. Without a mat, leave a little fabric visible around the design.
